Tell Kings College London (KCL) to end their links with Israeli apartheid

UK universities remain deeply complicit with Israeli apartheid through their institutional and financial links, despite often claiming to be "socially responsible". Kings College London (KCL) holds a partnership with Technion - State of Technology, a leading research and development Israeli institution for the Israeli arms trade, holding partnerships with Israeli Aerospace Industries, Rafael and Elbit Systems.

Dear Professor Edward Byrne AC,
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen regarding your University’s links with Technion – State of Technolgy an Institute which is directly complicit in violations of international law, and human rights conventions. 
Technion developed the remote controlled D-9 bulldozer which was used by the Israeli military during Operation Cast Lead, a war killing 1,400 Palestinians, <a href="https://www2.ohchr.org/english/bodies/hrcouncil/docs/12session/A-HRC-12-48.pdf">the vast majority of which were civilians</a>. These bulldozers are now routinely used to <a href="https://waronwant.org/sites/default/files/Caterpillar%20-%20The%20Alternative%20Report.pdf">demolish Palestinian homes</a>, factories, agricultural land and civilian infrastructure, including water pipes and networks on Palestinian territory assigned by the UN. Technion also maintains strong partnerships with multiple arms companies such as <a href="https://www.technion.ac.il/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/INDUSTRY-GUIDE-TO-TECHNION_L.pdf">Elbit Systems and Rafael.</a>
 
Elbit Systems manufactures and supplies the Israeli military with drones, used regularly in attacks on Palestinian civilians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It was recently revealed that Elbit drone Hermes 450 was part of an <a href="https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/israel-used-drone-to-kill-4-children-playing-on-gaza-beach-in-2014-1.6365860">attack</a> in 2014 in which four Palestinian children were killed on a beach in the Gaza Strip while playing football. Israel’s attacks on Palestinians, especially in the context of its <a href="https://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/HRC/CoIGazaConflict/Pages/CommissionOfInquiry.aspx">2014 war</a> and 2018/19 repression of the <a href="https://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/HRC/CoIOPT/Pages/Report2018OPT.aspx">Great Return March</a>, have been identified as grave human rights abuse and war crimes by international human rights experts, including the United Nations.
 
Elbit Systems also has produced the internationally banned chemical weapon ‘white phosphorous’, which Human Rights Watch <a href="https://www.hrw.org/news/2009/03/25/israel-white-phosphorus-use-evidence-war-crimes">revealed</a> was used by Israel in attacks on Palestinian in 2009. Elbit Systems produced canons for cluster munitions, subject to an international ban, which it has sold to the Israeli military as recently as <a href="https://www.hrw.org/news/2017/08/31/why-clinging-cluster-munitions-fatal-public-acceptance">2017</a>. Israel’s heavy use of cluster munitions is still causing devastation and destruction in Lebanon, where they were used in copious amounts <a href="https://www.hrw.org/report/2008/02/16/flooding-south-lebanon/israels-use-cluster-munitions-lebanon-july-and-august-2006">in 2006.</a>
 
I am also aware that there are proposed links with Hebrew university which has also played an active role in the violation of international rights specifically in relation to Israel’s annexation of occupied East Jerusalem. Several buildings of the university's <a href="https://overseas.huji.ac.il/student-life/student-services-at-hebrew-university-office-of-student-life/campus-map/">Mount Scopus campus</a> are located on  Palestinian land in East Jerusalem. The Hebrew University illegally acquired these lands via Israel’s unlawful appropriation of large tracts of occupied Palestinian land in 1968 meaning these buildings constitute an illegal Israeli settlement; Israel's annexation of Palestinian land alongside its decade long military occupation defined by Israeli settlements have been widely condemned as illegal under international law.
 
I am aware that students at Kings College have brought to your attention their deep concerns of the University’s complicity with Israel’s violations of Palestinian human rights. I am adding my voice to theirs as a citizen concerned that all public bodies in the UK have moral and legal responsibilities to ensure that they do not lend support to any institution involved or supporting the commission of grave human rights violations. If Kings College is to live up to its stated ambition <a href="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/aboutkings/strategy/Kings-strategic-vision-2029.pdf">“to make the world a better place”</a> then it needs to act now to sever its links with Technion.
