Palestinian civil society have called for an urgent global response, and here in the UK we are calling for meaningful actions to hold Israel accountable.

Dear Minister, Could you please let me know what meaningful action the UK is taking to prevent Israel's planned annexation of Palestinian territory in the West Bank? Only international pressure can force Israel to uphold international law, and the UK must lead the way in safeguarding human rights for everyone. When Russia annexed the Crimea, the UK was swift in implementing sanctions – sending a clear message that there are consequences to violating fundamental principles of international law. A different message, however, was sent to Israel as the international community failed to respond to its annexation of East Jerusalem in 1967. This must change. The UK must stand up for international law and make it clear Israel will be held accountable through meaningful measures. Palestinian civil society have collectively called for an urgent global response to the attack on their rights, and we must listen. Despite this, the UK continues to allow trade with illegal settlements, and through this trade supports their infrastructure in contravention of our international legal obligations. Similarly, we continue to trade arms with Israel - even as Israeli forces gun down unarmed Palestinian citizens. The message is clear: Israel is above the law, and Palestinian lives do not matter to the UK. This must change. Please help secure a just and lasting peace by implementing meaningful actions to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law. I implore you to: - Impose sanctions against Israel in response to illegal annexation of Palestinian territory. - Stop sustaining Israeli settlements, in contravention of our legal obligations, by banning UK trade with them. - End the UK-Israel arms trade.
