On the week of their AGM, tell HSBC to divest from companies complicit in Israel's war crimes!

HSBC must end its complicity in Israel’s gross violations of international law and Palestinian human rights by ending its relationship with companies that supply Israel with weapons and technology, like Caterpillar.

Successful campaigning has forced HSBC to divest from Israeli arms company Elbit Systems in December 2018. But HSBC continues to hold financial relationships, through owning shares and providing loans and other financial services, to a range of companies complicit in Israel's human rights abuses.

Keep the pressure up by telling HSBCs senior staff, on the week of their AGM, that they must divest from all companies complicit in Israel's violations of international law!

HSBC must end its complicity in Israel’s gross violations of international law and Palestinian human rights by ending its relationship with companies that supply Israel with weapons and technology, like Caterpillar.
Israel can only maintain its militarised repression of the Palestinian people through weapons and equipment it receives from a range of companies. Caterpillar, in which your bank holds nearly £100 million worth of shares, supplies Israel with bulldozers which are armoured and used to destroy Palestinian homes, factories, agricultural land and civilian infrastructure, including water pipes and networks on Palestinian territory. These demolitions are in violation of international law, with the Fourth Geneva Convention expressly prohibiting such acts.
Caterpillar’s D9 bulldozers have also been used to carry out extra-judicial killings. Israel uses the bulldozers as part of the notorious pressure-cooker tactic, used against Palestinians inside a house, who Israel wants to detain. If Palestinians do not surrender voluntarily, soldiers escalate their use of force before using live fire and bulldozers to damage the house<a href="https://whoprofits.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/old/facts_on_the_ground_-_heavy_engineering_machinery_and_the_israeli_occupation.pdf">. This has often culminated in extra-judicial killing, as documented by research group WhoProfits.</a>
Further, HSBC maintains shares, and provides loans and financial services to over a dozen companies that supply Israel with weaponry. This includes £69 million of shares in Raytheon, whose “bunker buster” bombs were used by Israel to target civilian homes during its 2014 assault on Gaza. Israel’s aerial bombardment and ground invasion of Gaza in 2014 killed over 2,200 Palestinians, nearly a quarter of them children. The United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on the 2014 Gaza conflict found credible allegations that Israel had committed war crimes through its indiscriminate targeting of civilians.
HSBC UKs latest Environmental,  Sustainability and Governance report states that “we seek to ensure that the financial services we provide to our customers do not result in an unacceptable impact on people or the environment” and as such, all credible reports of human rights abuses are investigated.
HSBC must follow its own report, and ensure it is not complicit with the Israeli violations of human rights listed above.  I therefore join the calls of shareholders at your AGM this week, who are asking you to immediately divest from companies complicit in Israel’s violations of human rights.
